Aran Linvail is the current Shadowmaster (supreme leader) of the Shadow Thieves in Athkatla. Of course, no one holds that office forever, which is why Aran surrounds himself only with bodyguards he can somewhat rely on. Neither is he an easy target, himself.
Although mainly about business, Aran Linvail has a reputation of honoring his contracts, at least to the extent that a proper businessman should. The player that sides with him against Bodhi will find the Shadowmaster is very good at excuses, yet is very rewarding in a practical term for the player's sacrifices... monetary or otherwise.
He is a no-nonsense thief, and he is both feared and respected by many in his organisation. The opportunists in his company are eliminated, and the loyalists are rewarded for service, a policy that has kept all his employees from deserting their guilds for the rival association. The player will also gain the opportunity to participate in the dirty business of flushing out traitors, should they side with Aran.
His power is only stretched so far, however. Aside from Renal Bloodscalp, Aran Linvail has little control over what happens in individual guildhouses, and therefore, the activities of the Shadow Thieves are very different from guild to guild. As long as the profit and loyalty of a guild is ensured, neither Renal or Aran will act against the various guildmasters actions.
If the player is successful in defeating Bodhi, he will congratulate the player, and the first time enable transport to Brynnlaw, under the guidance of Saemon Havarian. The other time, if he lives, will wield no reward, aside from the reasons as to why the PC confronted her.
Naturally, if the player sides with Bodhi, Aran Linvail will be a foe, and he won't be an easy target at that.
