Dualclassing
"Dualclassing" is the act of switching from one character Class to another. Only human characters may dualclass; non-human characters may multiclass, an option not open to humans.
The option to dualclass is only available to characters with exceptional stats. Furthermore, not all classes have the ability to dualclass, and some classes are able to dualclass but restricted in their options.
Upon switching classes, the character retains their hit points, but none of the abilities - spellcasting, turning undead, ability to use weapons and armour, etcetera - of the first class and starts over from level one in their new class. Abilities from the first class are regained once the character's level in the second class exceeds the level in the first. For example, a character who dualclasses from fighter to mage at level 8 will need to reach level 9 as a mage before they regain their fighter abilities.
Dual-classed characters may use all the abilities of their combined classes, but are still bound by certain restrictions - a fighter/mage may wear any kind of armour, but will not be able to cast spells while doing so (with some exceptions, such as elven chainmail).
A dual-classed character gains levels only in their active (second) class. Once a class has been abandoned, the character will no longer be able to improve their skills in that class.
