A member of the Shadow Thieves, Gaelan Bayle first encounters the PC within the slums of Athkatla after the abduction of Imoen, and arrest of Irenicus by the Cowled Wizards.
He is a man of his word, or at least much worth that is in his city according to Yoshimo. Gaelan tries to convince players that siding with the Shadow Thieves at the cost of 20000 gold to rescue Imoen, is a small expense, and a far better alternative to siding with the mysterious guild that opposes the Shadow Thieves.
His nephew, Brus, acts as a messenger for Gaelan, conveying messages and once acting like a guide should the PC allow it.
Should the PC side with the Shadow Thieves in Chapter 3, he grants the player a key to the main hideout of the Shadow Thieves in the docks of Athkatla.
If however, the PC sides with the other guild. Gaelan becomes a direct target of the ensuing violence, and must be killed to obtain a key to the Shadow Thieves headquaters in Athkatla.
Overall, Gaelan Bayle serves only as the frontman for the Shadow Thieves. Scouting for possible allies in the ensuing Guild war that has hit Athkatla by storm.
